Welcome to Solstice Welsh Cobs!
It was our goal to breed and produce athletic taller
Welsh Cobs and Welsh Cob/Arabian crosses that are suited
for Dressage, the show ring and other performance disciplines
Lynda succeeded beyond our greatest dreams.
In her memory, this website will continue to display some of

Habibi Escapade +/

(sadly now deceased)

May 17, 1980 - February 15, 2002

(aka Colty)

Please forgive the Arabian among the Welsh folks, but he deserves this recognition:

Purchased as a yearling in 1981 from his breeder - Habibi Arabians (Alberta Spickerman), Escapade climbed to the top of the Arabian Horse Show world after being raised, trained and exhibited by his owner Lynda Gillen-Smith.  He acheived the Legion of Honor Award in Fall 1988 and just eight months later the Legion of Supreme Honor Award.  He had an incredible show career, competing and showing in English, Dressage, Western, Hunter Jumper, Trail Class, Show Hack and Native Costume.

Colty's Accomplishments (the VERY shortened list):

1989 American Horse Shows Association Horse of the Year for English Pleasure

1989 American Horse Shows Association Grand Champion Arabian Horse (all events)

1989 American Horse Shows Association Grand Champion Arabian Gelding (all events)

Some other highlights of his career include:

1990 Scottsdale All Arabian High Point Gelding (plus $8,000 prize money and High Point Amateur)

1988 Scottsdale - First Place in: Arabian Trail Horse, Open Jumpers and Open Hunter (all at the same show)

1990 Region 1 Champion, Show Hack

All his wins were in HUGE classes, sometimes numbering 25 to 30, and against top trainers from all over the country.

He taught young ones to be ponied & led and he looked after and protected our fillies and mares.  (Especially GW Margarita - she was the love of his life!)  He raised our young stallion, Solstice Chivas Regal from a foal and was his role model.  If our young cobs turn out to have a fraction of Colty's work ethic, heart, kindness and intelligence, we will be very happy indeed.
